HOW TO: Force & Assist Feed Baby Snakes || Amazon Tree Boas

Another one of the most popular questions we get asked when baby Amazon Tree Boas are born is, "How do I get them to eat?". If you've tried some of the more trusted methods, and they still can't take the hint, you may have to assist or force feed. BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT THIS, you must ask yourself the following questions:

- Has the animal gone longer than 4-6 weeks without eating its first meal?

- Is the animal visibly losing weight?

- Has the animal regurgitated recently?

If you answered yes to the first two questions, and the animal hasn't regurgitated in the last week, you have a green light for attempting an assist/force feed. Important to note, if you are going to assist feed, you can feed a prey item that is an appropriately sized meal. If, however, you need to force feed, I recommend a size smaller. Also, if you are not 100% comfortable attempting this, there is no shame in asking around in your local reptile Facebook groups to see if someone can show you how to do it the first few times.
